Late Rallies Fall Short for Baseball at Arcadia

PHILADELPHIA – The Albright baseball team scored runs in its final at-bat in both ends of Saturday's doubleheader at Arcadia, but in both cases, the Lions came up short of completing the comebacks. Arcadia won the games 6-3 and 11-8.

In game one, the Lions jumped ahead with two runs in the top of the first inning after two outs. Jeff Yordy doubled to get the rally started, and Tanner Brescancine singled through the right side to chase Yordy home. After Brescancine advanced to second on a wild pitch, Micah Storms singled to give the Lions the early 2-0 advantage.

Arcadia tied the score with a pair of two-out, RBI doubles in the bottom of the second, and it took the lead with two more runs in the bottom of the third. Arcadia used a home run and another two-out hit to expand its lead to 6-2 after six innings.

Albright's last at-bat came in the seventh due to the doubleheader with the Lions needing four runs. After two quick outs, Albright pieced together three consecutive hits to score its third run. Logan Adams and Logan Pennypacker each singled, and Adams scored on Nathan Fretz's double to right center. With the tying run at the plate, though, Jimmie Gentry flied out to center to end it.

Brescancine and Storms each had two hits to lead Albright in game one.

In game two, Arcadia scored runs in each of its first five at-bats to take an 11-2 lead. Albright's runs both came in the second inning with the team behind, 4-0. Storms led off with a walk and Gentry singled him to second. After an out, Brandon Daubert doubled to right to plate Storms to make it 4-1. Pennypacker followed with an RBI groundout to score Gentry to cut the deficit to 4-2.

In its last at-bat of game two, Albright came to the dish trailing, 11-3. The Lions put forth a valiant effort, plating five runs after the first two hitters made outs. Brescancine started the rally with a double, and he scored on Joe Suppa's single. Kyle Gantert walked, and Keller singled up the middle to score Suppa to make it 11-5.

Daubert followed with a single to left to score Gantert. That made it 11-6. Pennypacker reached via an error to keep the game alive, and that play scored Keller to make it 11-7. Fretz followed with an infield single to bring Daubert home. With the score 11-8 and with the tying run coming to the plate, Arcadia finally shook off the Lions with a strikeout to end the game.

Albright had five of its 10 hits in the seventh inning. Four fielding errors hurt the Lions, allowing five unearned runs to score in game two.

Daubert had a pair of run-scoring hits to lead the offense. He also walked.

Albright finishes the series with Arcadia tomorrow afternoon at Kelchner Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
