Ninth Inning Runs Halt Baseball's Comeback

READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team scored a run in its second at-bat of the final inning to pull within one, but ultimately, the Lions' rally fell short as Arcadia completed the sweep with a 5-4 win Sunday afternoon at Kelchner Field.
Albright scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Nathan Fretz led off the inning with a double. After Logan Adams reached base via a walk, the Lions recorded two outs to bring Micah Storms to the plate. Storms smacked a single up the middle to plate Fretz and hand Albright an early 1-0 lead.

Arcadia jumped ahead in the top of the sixth thanks to a two-run home run from Phil Pierfy. The Knights tacked on a third run only one inning later after a Bryan Gillen solo shot.

The Lions battled back to knot the score at three in the bottom of the eighth. Noah Beebe ignited the two-out rally after being hit by a pitch. Logan Pennypacker ripped a double through the right side to bring Beebe home. Austin Roth stepped up to the plate after an Arcadia pitching change, and singled up the middle to make it a 3-3 ballgame.

The Lions' lead would not last long as Arcadia pulled ahead 5-3 in the top of the ninth after a RBI single and sacrifice fly.

After a quick out to start the ninth, Jeff Yordy provided a spark in the Lions' offense as they looked to tie the score once again. Yordy pulled Albright within one after blasting his team-leading third home run of the season. However, Zach Krause and Micah Storms ended the Lions' threat with a ground out and fly out to end the game.

Fretz led the Lions with three hits. Yordy, Storms and Pennypacker each added two hits in the contest. Connor Travis started the game for Albright, and tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless ball to hold the Knights at bay early.

Albright continues its season tomorrow, Monday April 10, when the Lions travel to Elizabethtown non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
