IMMACULATA, Pa. – Junior
Anthony Parlato scored the lone goal of the game in with 2:08 remaining in overtime to give the Albright men's soccer team a thrilling 1-0 win over Immaculata in their season opener.
Playing against the Macs for the third-straight season in the season opener, the Lions were able to avenge a loss from a year ago, while tallying their first overtime win since October 30, 2013 when they defeated Alvernia in double overtime.
The first half was quiet for both offenses as Albright was outshot 5-3 with only one hitting the target. Both teams began generating better chances in the second half with the Lions out-shooting the Macs 6-5 in the second half after registering five of the last six shots between both teams before time expired. In overtime, the Lions outshot the Macs 3-1 with Parlato tallying the game winner from 20 yards out to the far post.
Albright finished the game with a 12-11 advantage in shots while both teams each had five corner kicks in the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Billy Mullen earned the shutout win after posting five saves in nearly 98 minutes of action, while Immaculata goalkeeper Mikey Kalpokas made three saves in the loss. For Mullen, it was his third career shutout after he posted two in his freshman season a year ago.
Albright will return to action Tomorrow, Sept. 2, when they will host Penn State Berks in the 2017 home opener.
