READING, Pa. – After dropping the first two sets to Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday night at Bollman Center, the Albright volleyball team responded with a strong win in the third set to prolong the match. In the fourth set, the Lions held a 10-5 lead, but Penn State Harrisburg fought back to take the fourth set and the match. Penn State Harrisburg won the match 25-17, 25-18, 22-25 and 25-19.
In the third set, Albright jumped to a 6-1 lead thanks to a kill by
Kellie Hill and an ace from
Paige Westra. Harrisburg fought back to tie the score at 8-8, but a three-point run for the Lions put the team back on top. On that mini-run,
Morgan Puller had a pair of aces. Puller also had seven digs.
Penn State Harrisburg retook the lead, 21-18, but the Lions scored seven of the final eight points of the set to win it.
Claudia Guise and
Bryana Chambers had kills on that run, and another point from Hill closed the set. Guise had 26 assists and 10 digs. Hill led the offensive attack with 14 kills while adding six digs on the defensive side.
Albright jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the fourth set. Westra had a kill and an ace in that period. Westra also stopped a Penn State run that gave Harrisburg a 13-12 lead with another kill. She finished with four kills, four digs and two aces. Harrisburg went on a 4-0 run after that score, however, to take the lead for good. Penn State Harrisburg scored seven of the final nine points to win the set, 25-19.
Katie Schmerse and
Kaylyn Haan led the Lions with 14 digs apiece. Chambers had five kills, two solo blocks and two block assists.
Albright returns to action at home against Gwynedd Mercy on Monday at 7 p.m.
