SCRANTON, Pa. – Behind a goal from
Crissy Terraces in the 58
th minute of play, the Albright women's soccer team tallied a 1-0 win in their season opener on the road against Marywood in non-conference action.
The Lions have now won two of their last three season openers after dropping last their opener last season.
Albright controlled play early by tallying two shots that went on target, while surviving a Pacer shot off the crossbar in the 22
nd minute. Each team tallied six shots on net in the first half with Marywood holding a 3-2 edge on shots on goal.
Teraces tallied the only goal in the game in the 58
th minute on a header after a friendly bounce.
Daniella LoBue and
Emily Mollica picked up assists on the goal for the Lions. Albright would eventually hold off the Pacers despite a couple of good scoring chances, including a shot that went off the crossbar again in the 81
st minute.
The Pacers held a 15-13 shot advantage over the Lions after holding a 9-7 shot advantage in the second half. Albright held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks with three coming in the first half.
Junior goalkeeper
Alexis Tunney earned the shutout after posting four saves in the win, while Marywood goalkeeper Aly Moyer posted six saves in the loss.
The Lions will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 3, when it hosts Susquehanna in the 2017 home opener.
