Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rutgers-Newark Bests Men's Soccer, 3-0

READING, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team gave the #11/#4 ranked team in Division III, Rutgers-Newark, everything they had on Wednesday night, but ultimately fell 3-0 at Shirk Stadium in non-conference action.

With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-6-1 on the season as they near the end of non-conference play. Meanwhile, the Scarlet Raiders improve to 8-0 and earn their seventh shutout of the season.

Albright disrupted the Scarlet Raiders offensive rhythm for the majority of the first half as they held them to just three shots on goal in the first 35 minutes of the game. Rutgers-Newark finally got the break they needed in the 41st minute when a foul was called on the Lions in the box after hard contact was made. This would set up a penalty shot taken by leading scorer, Fabio De Sousa, who buried the kick in the top right corner of the net. The Scarlet Raiders held a 13-4 shot advantage after one period of play.

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders opened the lead up with a pair of goals in the 63rd and 73rd minutes to bring the score to its eventual final at 3-0. Hubert Dul beat freshman goalkeeper Brendan Hanratty on the far left side of the net after receiving a pass through traffic from Stefano Muniz. The second goal of the half was scored by Zachary Gillespie, who rifled a shot from the far right wing into the net.

The Scarlet Raiders finished with a 26-5 shot advantage after holding a 13-1 margin in the second half. Rutgers-Newark also held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks as well.

Hanratty, making his second start of the season, made six saves and allowed three goals in the full 90 minutes of play. Scarlet Raider goalkeeper Andres Medina earned his eighth win of the season after making one save in the second half.

The Lions will return to action on Saturday, September 23rd when they will travel to face Marywood for a 6:00 p.m. start.
