SCRANTON, Pa. – The Albright men's soccer team battled hard on the road Saturday evening, but ended up suffering a tough 1-0 loss to Marywood in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-7-1 on the season and have lost five in a row. Meanwhile, the Pacers improve to 3-3 on the season as members of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC).
The Lions came out strong in the first half as they registered six of the first seven shots of the contest. Junior
Anthony Parlato forced a tough save early on the Marywood goalkeeper as that ended up being the lone shot on goal for the game for the Lions. Albright held a 6-1 shot advantage in the first half of play.
The Pacers began to fight back in the second half with a few good chances that just went wide of the goal. The game remained scoreless until the 80
th minute of the game when Marywood broke the scoreless tie on a goal from Zac Lloyd, who cashed in off a long ball sent down the sideline. Parlato nearly tied the game up in the final minute off a header that would just go wide right. In the end, Albright's late offensive surge was not enough to at least force overtime.
Albright still held a 12-8 shot advantage after a wide shot margin in the first half. Meanwhile, the Pacers held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Billy Mullen suffered the loss after making three saves in the full 90 minutes of play, while Pacers goalkeeper Michael Mejia earned the win after making one save in the entire 90 minutes.
The Lions will return home on Wednesday, September 27
th when they will host DeSales for a 4 p.m. contest.
