READING, Pa. – Kellie Hill led the Albright volleyball team with 18 kills, but the Lions fell to Widener in four sets in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday night at Bollman Center.

Widener used a 6-0 run in the first set to turn a 16-15 deficit into a 21-16 lead. Katie Schmerse and Bryana Chambers responded with back-to-back kills to make it 21-18, but Widener recovered to split points with the Lions all the way to 25. Schmerse finished with six kills and she tied for second on the Lions with 17 digs. Chambers finished with three kills.

Albright took an early lead in the second set. Chambers and Schmerse bookended a 5-0 run with kills to make it 9-3 Albright. After Widener made it 10-8, Paige Westra added a kill on a 3-0 run to make it 13-8. Hill followed that up with three consecutive Albright points to help the Lions to a 19-14 lead. Schmerse had two more kills late in the set to help the Lions to a 25-22 win. Westra had seven kills and 17 digs.

Widener controlled the third set, holding Albright to just a .026 hitting percentage. In the fourth set, Hill had three consecutive kills to push the Albright lead to 13-9 as the Lions looked to extend the match to the final set. Widener responded, however, with a 10-3 run that saw Hill record all three Lions' points in that stretch. Westra brought the Lions to within 20-19, but Albright couldn't again tie the score.

Claudia Guise had 37 assists, 10 digs and four kills for the Lions. Becca Davis led Albright with 27 digs. Morgan Puller had 12 digs for the Lions.

Albright returns to action this weekend at the York College Spartan Invitational with four matches on Friday and Saturday.
