READING, Pa. – The Albright women's volleyball team opened Tuesday night's MAC Commonwealth match with Lebanon Valley with a solid first set victory over the Dutchmen, but LVC responded with wins in each of the next three sets to take the match. LVC won the match 20-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-14.
In that first set, LVC held an early 8-6 lead, but the Lions responded with the next six points. That run was bookended by kills from
Shaniyah Taylor and
Paige Westra.
Kellie Hill added a kill later to make it 15-12, but LVC fought back to cut the deficit to just a single point at 18-17.
Morgan Puller started the Lions on a 4-0 run, though, to help the Lions regain a five-point led.
Bryana Chambers closed the set with a kill for a 25-20 Albright victory. Albright held LVC to a .065 hitting percentage in the set.
Slow starts in each of the next three sets doomed the Lions. In game two, LVC opened with an 11-1 lead. In game three, it was 9-1. And in game four, it was 10-2.
Taylor led a balanced offensive attack for the Lions, finishing with a team-best seven kills. Westra and Hill each had six. Westra added 13 digs. Puller finished with a team-high 16 digs and a pair of aces.
Westra hit .250 to lead Albright. The Lions held the Dutchmen to a .189 hitting percentage for the match.
The Lions are back in action with a pair of home matches on Saturday in a tri-match with Rutgers-Camden and Penn State Abington. The Lions face Rutgers-Camden at 11 a.m. and Penn State Abington at 3 p.m. Those two teams square off at 1 p.m.
