CHESTER, Pa. – The Albright men's and women's swimming teams competed in dual meet action on Saturday afternoon at Widener. Sophomore
Bryce Schaffer captured both the 100 and 200 butterfly as the men's team picked up a 152-110 victory over the Pride, while the women's team dropped a 189-73 decision.
Schaffer won the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.48, nearly two seconds faster than the second place finisher and captured the 200 butterfly as he touched the wall in a time of 1:58.50.
Other winners for Albright included senior
Brendan Mackey-Wood in the 1000 freestyle (10:32.64), senior
Tyler Chamberlin in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.00), sophomore
Chris Laite in the 200 backstroke (2:05.77) and junior
Teag Culver in the 500 freestyle (4:55.11).
The Lions also brought home victories in the 200 medley relay as the quartet of freshman
Joseph Guiliano, Chamberlin, Schaffer and sophomore
Harrison Hunsberger took the race in a time of 1:39.48 and the 400 freestyle relay as the relay team of Culver, Guiliano, Laite and Hunsberger touched the wall in 3:18.25.
On the women's side of things, the winners included freshman
Allyson Kraff in the 1,000 freestyle (11:22.59) and freshman
Alaina Ricci in the 200 backstroke (2:16.23). Kraff also placed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:40.68, while Ricci finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:22.66).
Albright swept the top three places in the 1,000 freestyle as Mackey-Wood was followed by freshman
Conor Hassard in second (10:41.23) and junior
Nicholas Cancino (10:44.60). Culver placed second in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:47.97. In the 200 backstroke, Laite won with a time of 2:05.77 after holding off a late charge from Guiliano (2:06.00). Chamberlin also nabbed a second place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.27.
The Lions return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 3 when Arcadia comes to the Albright Natatorium for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
