Lebanon Valley Takes Down Volleyball, 3-0

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's volleyball team was defeated in straight-sets on the road by Lebanon Valley on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth play.
 
With the loss, the Lions fall to 6-9 on the season and 0-5 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen improve to 9-8 on the season and 2-2 in MAC Commonwealth play.
 
Sophomore Damaris Gomez led the Lions with a game-high eight kills and added three digs, while classmate Liz Bacovin followed with kills. Sophomore Kaitlyn Chell registered a team-high 11 digs and two digs in the loss. Senior Becca Davis added 10 digs and sophomore Alexa Poss paced the offense with 12 assists.
 
The first few points of the first set went back and forth as the score sat tied at four. Lebanon Valley made its first run of the game by taking 10 of the next 12 points to go up 14-6. Albright then took the next four points to cut the lead down to 14-10, but Lebanon Valley would storm away with the first set by taking the last 11 of 12 points to close it out. The Dutchmen hit a staggering .444 in the first set behind 16 kills on 26 attack attempts.
 
Each team won three-straight points to open the second set and the score eventually sat tied at six early on. The Dutchmen then took five of the next six points to go up 11-7 that was capped by a service ace. Albright took advantage of some errors from Lebanon Valley to cut the lead down to 12-10, but the Dutchemen responded by taking nine of the next 10 points behind eight straight points to go up 21-11. Gomez would pick up the Lions last two points of the set with kills before the Dutchmen closed out the set at 25-13. The third set sat tied at three until the Dutchmen used a run of winning eight of the next 10 points to go up 11-5. Lebanon Valley worked the lead up to 18-8 before three straight attack errors brought the score down to 18-11. The Lions crawled back into the set by cutting the Dutchmen lead down to 20-16 behind four-straight points, but Lebanon Valley closed the game out with the final five points.
 
The Dutchmen registered a .372 hitting percentage compared to the Lions at .012 behind 44 kills. Lebanon Valley also held a 10-4 advantage in service aces. Jess Attieh led the Dutchmen with 15 kills.
 
Albright will return to action on Saturday, October 6th when they will compete in the King's Tri-Match against Rutgers-Newark and King's starting at 11 a.m.
