Second Half Goals Cost Men's Soccer in Loss to #1 Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's soccer team (3-7-1, 1-2 MACC) trailed by just a goal early in the second half, but eventually fell to #1 Messiah (10-0-2, 3-0 MACC) by a score of 4-0 on Saturday night at Shoemaker Field.

The Falcons struck just 5:23 into the game to take an early 1-0 lead as David Alejos sent a cross into the box and found Lucas Kokolios for the goal. Seconds prior to the goal, senior Anthony Parlato had sent a shot just wide for the Lions. Messiah held a 15-3 shot advantage in the opening stanza.

It was a 1-0 game until the 54th minute when Nick West played a through ball from Justin Brautigam and found the back of the net for his nation-leading 19th goal of the season. Luke Groothoff made it a 3-0 game less than 90 seconds later and the Falcons would add their fourth goal in the 66th minute.

Messiah finished with a 36-7 advantage in shots and a 13-2 edge in shots on target. Parlato paced the Lions with four shots, while West and Groothoff had five apiece for the Falcons.

Junior goalie Billy Mullen made a season-high nine saves in net for Albright.
