READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's soccer team (3-8-1, 1-3 MACC) put together a late rally, but fell short in a 2-1 loss to the Arcadia Knights (4-8-1, 1-3 MACC) on Tuesday night at Shirk Stadium.
Albright had a couple of chances on set pieces in the final 10 minutes of the match, but were unable to net the tying goal.
The Knights jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 18
th minute as Daniel Tittelmayer played a ball from Ryan Hammer and sent a stunning bicycle kick into the net from near the top of the box.
Hammer took a feed from Sam Hernandez in the 51
st minute and was able to beat Lions' goalie
Billy Mullen with a shot to the near post to stretch the Arcadia lead to 2-0. Freshman
Billy Hanratty got the rally started for Albright in the 78
th minute as he cut the lead in half off an assist from senior
Jared Leckburg. The goal was Hanratty's fourth of the season, which is tied for the team lead with
Anthony Parlato.
Arcadia held an 18-4 shot advantage in the contest including a 12-3 edge in shots on target. Hanratty and Parlato paced the Lions with two shots apiece, while Hammer recorded six shots for the Knights.
Mullen made a season-high 10 saves in net for Albright and keeper Jake Varrato had a pair of saves for Arcadia.
The Lions are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 11 when Bryn Athyn comes to Shirk Stadium for a non-conference tilt at 7 p.m.
