GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's soccer team (8-2-1, 2-1 MACC) battled for all 90 minutes, but dropped a 2-0 decision to the No. 3 Messiah Falcons (10-1, 3-0 MACC) in MAC Commonwealth play on Saturday afternoon.
Albright started the game with a strong defensive effort and survived a couple of early corner kicks from the Falcons. The game would stay scoreless until the 37
th minute when Jessie Fisher took a feed from Emily D'Amico and sent a high arcing shot that found the upper 90 in the far right side of the net to give Messiah a 1-0 lead. The hosts held a 19-1 shot advantage in the opening stanza as sophomore forward
Lauren Haley tallied a shot for the Lions shortly after Fisher's goal and sent it just wide.
Messiah got off to a strong start in the second half and had a number of chances in the first 15 minutes, but the Lions were able to keep it a one goal game for the time being. In the 85
th minute, Fisher sent a corner kick into the box and Barb Foster found the back of the net with a quick shot to give the Falcons a 2-0 edge.
Messiah held a 37-1 shot advantage in the contest including 16 shots on target. Senior goalie
Alexis Tunney made a career-high 14 saves in net for Albright, topping her previous career-high of 10 that was set in a scoreless draw with the Falcons on Oct. 4, 2017.
The Lions look to bounce back when they return home to host Arcadia in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
