IMMACULATA, Pa. – Freshman guard
Shaunna Bruker posted a double-double with 13 points and 21 rebounds as the Albright Lions women's basketball team (2-3) notched their second straight win with a 56-44 victory over the Immaculata Mighty Macs (2-3) on Tuesday night at Immaculata.
Bruker's 21 rebounds are tied for the sixth most in program history and the most in a game by an Albright player since Barbara Mann collected 22 boards vs. Haverford in 1987.
The double-double is Bruker's second of the season and she was joined in double figures by junior center
Zaria Mohamed who added 18 points on 8-of-8 free throw shooting and freshman forward
Gabby Boggs who chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Natalie Ayoub and Theresa Kearney had 11 points apiece to lead the Mighty Macs, while Amber Ballinger added seven.
Albright took a 25-13 lead into the third quarter and after Immaculata scored the first four points of the quarter to cut the lead to eight, Mohamed hit a layup to kickstart an 11-2 run that was capped by a Bruker layup to make it a 36-19 game at the 2:56 mark. Mohamed also sank a pair of free throws in the final seconds as the Lions held a 44-27 lead after three quarters.
Immaculata jumped out to an early lead in this one as they scored six of the first eight points and a three-pointer from Brielle Rigo made it an 11-8 game in favor of the Mighty Macs at the 4:08 mark before Mohamed hit a layup on the other end to start a 13-0 run for the Lions that continued into the second quarter.
The Mighty Macs wouldn't go quietly though as a 6-0 spurt early on in the fourth quarter capped by a layup from Ayoub brought the hosts within 10 at 47-37 with 3:49 left. Albright hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 1:14 to preserve the win.
The Lions are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 24 when they return home to host Rowan at 2 p.m.
