Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late Comeback Not Enough as Women's Hoops Falls to Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – Devan Rimmer's pair of free throws with 1:20 left gave Widener (8-1, 2-1 MACC) the lead for good and the Albright Lions women's basketball team (3-6, 0-3 MACC) dropped a 64-58 decision to the Pride on Wednesday night at the Schwartz Center in Chester.

Rimmer's free throws came after Albright had tied the game at 56 apiece on an offensive rebound and putback from sophomore guard Alli Marcus. Marcus missed a three on the ensuing possession after Rimmer's free throws that would have given the Lions the lead. Widener hit 6-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final 1:20 to preserve the win. Albright trailed 56-46 with 3:48 remaining before a jumper from Hailey Dayton ignited a 10-0 run capped by the afore-mentioned game-tying layup from Marcus.

Freshman forward Gabby Boggs paced the Lions with a season-high 18 points and notched her fifth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds. Dayton added a season-high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Marcus chipped in nine points of her own.

Rimmer hit 9-of-12 from the free throw line en route to a game-high 23 points for the Pride and Emma Gardy had 14 points, while Madison Ireland delivered nine assists and 13 rebounds.

Widener scored five of the first seven points out of the gate before head coach Janice Luck's squad responded with an 11-2 run over the remainder of the first quarter capped by a Dayton jumper in the final minute to open up a 13-8 lead. The Pride would answer with a 13-2 run of their own to take a 21-15 lead following a Kyra Schenk layup at the 5:27 mark, but the Lions put together a run and Kayana Chisholm's jumper tied the game at 25 apiece heading into the locker room.

The Pride held a slight 31-29 edge with 7:05 to play in the third quarter before embarking on a 16-5 run over the remainder of the period capped by a pair of free throws from Gardy to make it a 47-34 game headed into the final stanza. The two teams traded baskets in the early stages of the fourth quarter before the Lions' late run.

Albright shot 39.7% (25-of-63) from the floor and 25% (3-of-12) from deep, while Widener checked in 31.7% (20-of-63) from the field and 25% (4-of-16) from three point range. The Pride connected on 20-of-29 (69%) from the charity stripe, while the Lions were 5-of-17 (29.4%).

Albright heads to Stevenson to battle the Mustangs in a MAC Commonwealth tilt on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 1 p.m.
