READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's lacrosse team opened the 2018 season with a come from behind victory as they defeated Misericordia 12-11 in a back and forth contest on Wednesday evening at Shirk Stadium.

Corinne Donohue opened the scoring for the Lions at the 26:21-mark of the first half before the Cougars countered just under a minute later to tie the game at one. Freshman
Tristin Konen would score the first goal of her collegiate career at the 18:16-mark off a pass from senior
Casey Stocker, and was followed 30 seconds later from Donohue who scored her second goal of the game to make it 3-1. However, Misericordia controlled play for the rest of the half as they struck back with four unanswered goals to close out the first period with a 5-3 lead.
After the Cougars extended their lead to 6-3 to open the second half, the Lions stormed back again with three straight goals to tie the game at six with 23:11 left in the game. Junior
Sophie Bass scored two of the goals during that span along with Konen tallying her second of the game as well. The Cougars scored two goals in just over a minute span to take an 8-6 lead with 18:08 left in the game, but the Lions again responded with three straight goals, all of which came from freshman
Sarah Springer in her collegiate debut. Misericordia would take the lead back again at 10-9 with 9:46 left to play before the Lions made one last rally to take the lead for good with another run of three unanswered goals. Bass would score the first two before Springer scored the Lions final goal of the game at the 6:11-mark of the second half. Albright needed to withstand one last Cougars charge after they scored a goal to make it 12-11 with 2:50 left. Misericordia got a free position attempt from Kaila Quinlivan, who had tallied six points in the game, with 30 seconds left to try and force overtime. But Lions freshman goalkeeper
Terae Mason stood tall in net by deflecting the attempt wide to preserve the victory.
The Lions held a 34-25 shot advantage for the game and a 24-19 advantage of shots going on goal. Albright also held a 24-18 advantage in ground balls and forced 29 Cougar turnovers. The Cougars held a 14-11 in draw control wins, and the lead changed hand six times with five ties.
Donohue led the Lions with six points behind four assists and two goals, while Bass and Springer each tallied four goals. Mason picked up the win in her collegiate debut after making eight saves. Meaghan Whelan led the Cougars with four goals and Jenn Gazdick took the loss in net with 12 saves.
Albright will return to action on Saturday, February 24
th when they will host Ursinus in non-conference play at 12 p.m.
