Kenyon Sweeps Baseball in Tuesday Action

FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Albright baseball team lost its first two games of the season on Tuesday, dropping games to Kenyon, 4-1 and 5-1, during the team's spring break trip.

In game one, Kenyon scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but the Lions came back to tie the score in the bottom of the third. Jack Shevlin led off the inning with a single to center, and Logan Pennypacker singled him to third base two batters later. Jimmie Gentry grounded out to third base to bring Shevlin home, tying the score at 1-1.

The score stayed tied until the top of the fifth inning. With runners on at first and second, a sacrifice bunt attempt turned into a pair of runs for Kenyon thanks to an Albright error. A single followed on the next at-bat to make it 4-1.

The teams combined for 10 hits, with four Albright players each recording one hit. Albright also recorded three errors on defense. Nick Dinnocenti pitched six innings, allowing just one earned run of the four that crossed. Ryan Kalinich pitched an inning of scoreless relief.

In game two, the Lions got on the board in the top of the first. Gentry led off the game with a double to left, and he advanced to third on a Joe Suppa groundout. Jeff Yordy picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Gentry.

Kenyon used a walk and a double in the bottom half of the frame to set up a sacrifice fly of its own, tying the score, 1-1. Kenyon scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning after it led off the inning with three straight hits. The big hit in the inning came after two outs with a double to left to score two runs. Kenyon added another insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Albright concludes its spring break trip against Earlham on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
