Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WLAX Dominates Farmingdale State on the Road, 17-6

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Albright Lions women's lacrosse team used a dominant first half to pull away from Farmingdale State on Friday afternoon, and earn a convincing 17-6 win in non-conference play.

With the win, the Lions improve to 4-3 overall and pick up their first road win of the season. Meanwhile, the Rams of the Skyline Conference drop to 0-3 overall.

It took just 45 seconds for the Lions to open the scoring as junior Sophie Bass ripped a goal past the Rams goalkeeper to give Albright an early 1-0 advantage. Bass then came right back just 13 seconds later to score her second goal on a free position shot to extend the Lions lead to 2-0 following a draw control win. The Rams cut the lead down to 2-1 at the 25:35-mark of the first half, but that would be as close as they would get for the rest of the game. Albright responded with nine straight goals to eventually take an 11-1 lead over the Rams in the first half. Bass began the nine goal run with her third goal of the game at the 20:23-mark, and was followed just 18 seconds later by senior Sydney Nankervis to make it a 4-1 Lions advantage. Sophomore Devon Mela then scored her first goal in her 2018 debut to extend the Lions lead to 5-1, and Nankervis continued to hot streak rolling with a goal at the 18:03-mark to give the Lions a 6-1 lead. Freshman Sarah Springer would make it a 7-1 game at the 16:14-mark, and Bass tallied her fourth goal of the half three minutes later on another free position shot to give the Lions an 8-1 lead.  Senior Casey Stocker then got in on the scoring at the 10:43-mark just before Bass posted her fifth goal of the first half to make it 10-1 Albright with 7:56 left in the first half. Sophomore Kelly Baumann capped the run with a goal at the 7:03-mark, and Bass followed with her sixth goal of the first half just before halftime after the Rams tallied back-to-back goals.

Leading 12-4 into the second half, the Lions continued to roll by scoring the first three goals of the half to take a commanding 15-4 advantage at the 24:05-mark. Senior Corinne Donohue played a role in the first two goals by scoring the first, and assisting on Nankervis's third goal of the game just under a minute later. Baumann then scored her second goal of the game to conclude the short run before the teams did not score for the next 18 minutes. Following a Farmingdale goal, senior Erin Coleman tallied her first goal of the game with 4:19 left in the second half to bring the Lions lead to 16-5. Sophomore Alexis Filmer then scored her first goal of the season, and the Lions last goal of the day on a free position shot just two minutes later.

The Lions held a sizable 43-18 shot advantage for the game, and a 29-11 advantage in shots on goal. Albright scored on 12 of its 16 first half shots on goal, and forced 15 Farmingdale turnovers for the game. The Lions also held a 16-10 advantage in ground balls, and an 18-6 advantage in draw control wins. Bass led the way with seven points behind a career-high six goals, one assist, and posted eight draw control wins. Nankervis added her first hat trick of the season with three goals, while Baumann continued her hot streak with two goals and one assist. Donohue also posted three points behind one goal and two assists. Freshman goalkeeper Terae Mason picked up the win in net with five saves and allowing just six goals, while Rams goalkeeper Jessica Myers suffered the loss with 12 saves.

Albright will return to action on Sunday, March 18th when it hosts Lynchburg for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
