READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team concluded its first MAC Commonwealth series of the 2018 season with a 16-2 loss to Alvernia on Sunday at Kelchner Field.
Noah Beebe scored both Albright runs while going 2-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch.
After Alvernia took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, the Lions came back to trim the deficit in half in the bottom of the second. Beebe led off with a hit-by-pitch, and he moved to third base on
Joe Suppa's double to right center.
Brandon Daubert followed with an RBI groundout to shortstop to make it 2-1.
Alvernia added three runs – two of them unearned – in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 5-1. Things unraveled in the top of the seventh. Alvernia posted eight runs while sending 13 men to the plate. By the time the dust settled, it was 13-1 Alvernia.
The Lions got their second run in the bottom of the seventh. Beebe led off with a single, and he moved to third on
Tanner Brescancine's double to right. Daubert earned his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to bring home Beebe.
Tyler Nicoletto pitched a scoreless ninth inning in relief for Albright in his collegiate debut.
Albright returns to action on Tuesday at Franklin & Marshall at 3:30 p.m.
