Slow Start Dooms Men's Lacrosse at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's lacrosse team could not recover after falling behind early to Ursinus on Sunday afternoon, and eventually lost 10-1 to the Bears in non-conference play.
 
With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-3 on the season after playing three of its four games on the road. Meanwhile, the Bears picked up their first win of the season after dropping its first two games.
 
Ursinus came out strong from the start by controlling play and peppering the Albright net with shots. The Bears converted with the first five goals of the game between a span of 5:06 to take a 5-0 lead over the Lions in the first quarter. Freshman James Gorman then tallied the only goal for the Lions at the 1:30-mark of the first quarter off a pass from senior JJ Boliaux. Gorman now ranks second on the team in goals, and leads the team with 10 points. After getting out-shot 13-1 in the first quarter, the Lions held down the Bears offense for the majority of the second before Ursinus extended its lead to 6-1 with 3:03 left in the first half. The Bears continued to pull away from the Lions in the final two quarters by scoring two goals each in the third and fourth to make the final 10-1.
 
The Bears held a sizable 40-15 shot advantage overall, and a 21-9 advantage of shots on net. Ursinus also held a 36-27 ground ball advantage, and a 9-5 advantage in the face-off circle. Lions goalkeeper Ryan Aler made 11 saves on 21 shots faced in net as he suffered the loss, while Ursinus goalkeeper Nick Kirk earned the win after playing 45 minutes in net and making five saves.
 
Albright will return to action on Saturday March 10th, when it hosts McDaniel at 1 p.m. in non-conference play.
