Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Lebanon Valley

READING, Pa. – The Albright baseball team split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader with Lebanon Valley on Sunday at Kelchner Field. After dropping game one, 2-0, the Lions roared back for a 11-2 victory in game two.

Game one was a pitchers' duel as both starters pitched complete games. Albright's Nick Dinnocenti allowed just two runs, one earned, on three hits in his seven innings. As good as Dinnocenti was, Lebanon Valley's Brenden Ward was just a fraction better. He pitched a complete game shutout, allowing four hits while striking out six.

Lebanon Valley finally broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. A leadoff walk led to the first run thanks to a two-out triple. The Dutchmen got their second run in the inning when an error allowed an unearned run to cross.

Albright's offense broke out in game two. The Lions put up the first three runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. The inning started innocently enough as the first two Lions were retired. Logan Pennypacker walked, and he later scored on a Jesse Fikslin RBI single. Jimmie Gentry singled home Fikslin and Jack Shevlin later in the inning to give the Lions a 3-0 lead.

Shevlin made it 4-0 when he singled home Beebe in the bottom of the third, and that set the stage for a seven-run bottom of the fourth after Lebanon Valley pushed two runs across in the top of the inning to make it 4-2.

In the big inning, the Lions got seven runs on five hits with the benefit of two Lebanon Valley errors. The Lions made it 5-2 when Gentry stole second and the throw got away to allow Logan Adams to come home. Gentry scored to make it 6-2 when Tanner Brescancine singled him home. Noah Beebe scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2, and Pennypacker's single scored Suppa to make it 8-2.

Adams put the Lions into double digits with a two-run single to left field, and Gentry's single scored Fikslin to round out the frame.

That would be the end of the scoring in the game, and it was more than enough to get the Lions the win.

Adams and Gentry led the Lions with two hits apiece. They also combined for five RBIs with Gentry picking up three of them.

Will Tokarski picked up the win in relief. He went 2.2 innings, allowing no runs and one hit while fanning two. Gentry and Pennypacker also each had two stolen bases.

Albright is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Delaware Valley at 4 p.m.
