DOVER, Del. – Senior
Kennedy Lutz recorded the first multi-goal game of her career and the Albright Lions women's soccer team (4-0-1) continued their hot start with a 3-1 victory over the Wesley Wolverines (3-1) on Wednesday night at Drass Field in Dover.
This marks the first time that Albright has been unbeaten through five games since a 6-0 start to the 2005 campaign.
Lutz struck first just 8:36 into the game as sophomore
Amanda Fulcher sent a ball into the box and the senior was able to head it home for an early 1-0 game. The Sinking Spring, Pa. native converted a penalty kick in the 31
st minute to stretch it to a two-goal lead before Mackenzie Forsythe got the Wolverines on the board in the 36
th minute to cut the lead to 2-1. Albright held a 16-4 shot advantage in the opening stanza.
Lutz has now converted all three of her penalty kick attempts this season.
Sophomore
Lauren Haley netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 51
st minute as she collected a loose ball in the box off a free kick from freshman
Autumn Bieber and slid it past Wesley keeper Isabelle Fabris to make it a 3-1 game in favor of the Lions.
Albright outshot Wesley by a staggering 29-9 margin and held a 16-4 edge in shots on target. Haley had 10 shots to lead the way for head coach
Pat Stanco's squad, while Lutz recorded six. Emily Caldarelli paced the Wolverines with three shots.
Seniors
Payton Bogatch (one save) and
Alexis Tunney (two saves) each saw action in goal for the Lions, while Fabris collected 13 saves for Wesley.
Albright returns home to host King's College (Pa.) on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Shirk Stadium. Opening kick is set for 8 p.m.
