READING, Pa. –
Jillian Lapidus' game-winning goal in the 94
th minute lifted the Albright Lions women's soccer team (5-0-1) to a 1-0 overtime victory over the King's College Monarchs (2-3) on Saturday night at Shirk Stadium.
Lapidus, a junior, gathered a loose ball off a bounce at the top of the box following a free kick from sophomore
Amanda Fulcher and sent her shot far post just past the dive of King's goalie Jess Schenfeld for the game-winner. The goal was Lapidus' third of the season.
Albright is unbeaten through six games for the first time since a 6-0 start to the 2005 campaign.
The two sides combined for eight total shots in a scoreless first half and perhaps the best chance for either side came in the final minute when Lions' freshman
Kate Griffin rang the post with a shot.
Head coach
Pat Stanco's squad limited King's to just two total shots in the second half and overtime.
The Lions held a slight 8-7 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in shots on target. Sophomore forward
Lauren Haley paced the hosts with three shots, while Emily Harrington recorded a pair for King's.
Senior goalie
Alexis Tunney recorded three saves in net for Albright to notch her second shutout of the season.
Albright is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 when Moravian comes to Shirk Stadium for a 7 p.m. tilt.
