YORK, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's tennis team opened its fall season with a 9-0 loss to York College (Pa.) on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Spartan Tennis Centre in York.
The Spartans grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the match by virtue of sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomores
Noah Jessie and
Dylan Okonski dropped an 8-4 decision to York's Sam Innerst and Joel Hess at the first position. The Spartans' Ben Sentz and Lukas Olson recorded an 8-0 victory over Albright junior
Zach Schulties and freshman
Armando Santana at the No. 2 doubles action. In the third doubles spot, senior
Dylan Rutt and sophomore
Brody Brown fell to York's Tyler Richard and Justin Rose by an 8-1 score.
York completed the match by winning each of the six singles matches. In No. 1 singles action, Sentz topped Jessie by a 6-2, 6-1 count. Okonski battled to the end against Innerst in second singles action before falling 6-3, 6-3. At the No. 3 singles spot, Schulties fell to Hess by a 6-1, 6-0 score and Santana dropped a hard-fought 7-5, 6-0 match to Olson in the fourth singles position. Rutt was playing York's Josiah Forry in the No. 5 spot and trailed 6-2, 4-3 at the time of his retirement, while Brown fell in straight sets to Richard in the sixth and final spot.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 when they head to Westminster, Md. to battle McDaniel at 3:30 p.m.
