Men's Soccer Drops Overtime Heartbreaker, 4-3

READING, Pa. – Zac Lloyd's game-winning goal in the final minute of the first overtime period lifted the Marywood Pacers (1-3) to a 4-3 victory over the Albright Lions men's soccer team (1-4-1) on Saturday night at Shirk Stadium.

Lloyd collected a loose ball in the box and was able to beat Lions' keeper Brendan Hanratty with a low shot to complete a hat trick and give Marywood the victory.

Albright has now dropped four of their last five after capturing a 2-1 victory in the season opener against Immaculata on Aug. 31. Two of the four losses during the stretch have come in overtime.

The Lions had tied the game in the 81st minute on a penalty kick goal from senior Jared Leckburg. That came on the heels of a PK attempt from Leckburg in the 60th minute that was stopped on a diving save from Marywood's Mike Gallagher.

The Pacers struck first in the early stages of the first half as Ian Goodale buried a header off a corner kick from Tom Cuffari in the 8th minute. Lloyd scored the first of his goals in the 30th minute as he converted a rebound off an initial shot to make it a 2-0 game in favor of the visitors.

Albright would not go quietly however as freshman Billy Hanratty cut the lead in half with a goal in the 53rd minute off a feed from senior Anthony Parlato. Lloyd answered under 90 seconds later with a deflection off a defender and Parlato cut the lead back to one in the 56th minute with a header off a corner kick from junior Eric Adamo.

Parlato sent a potential go-ahead goal just wide of the post in the 84th minute and things remained tied at three.

The Pacers held a 18-15 shot advantage including an 11-7 edge in shots on target. Leckburg, Parlato and freshman Paul Baringanire had three shots apiece to pace Albright, while Lloyd's seven shots led the way for the visitors.

Hanratty had seven saves in net for head coach Chris Tadley's squad and Gallagher recorded four saves for Marywood.

The game was a physical affair as the two sides combined for 32 fouls and five yellow cards.

Albright looks to bounce back on Wednesday, Sept. 19 when they hit the road to battle Rutgers-Newark. Opening kick is slated for 7:30 p.m.
