Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Overpowers Immaculata, 6-2

READING, Pa. – The Albright field hockey grabbed an early lead and never looked back as they downed Immaculata 6-2 in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.

With the win, the Lions improve to 3-4 on the season and scored their most goals in a game since they tallied seven against Keystone in October 2016. Meanwhile, the Mighty Macs drop to 1-8 overall.

Immaculata started the game off by receiving three straight penalty corners, but could not get a shot off any of them. That allowed the Lions to generate a counter-attack which led to Albright's first goal from senior Annette Helmandollar in the seventh minute. Sophomore Kaley Donmoyer delivered a hard pass to Helmandollar in the middle, who would push the ball past the goalie. The Lions continued to dominate in the following minutes, and scored again in the 16th minute thanks to a goal from sophomore Jennifer Crumling. Jennifer Crumling struck again just 1:09 later for her second goal of the game after junior Marley Berger found her alone on the left side of the net following a scramble from a penalty corner. The Mighty Macs began to generate pressure in the next minutes and broke the shutout on a penalty stroke goal in the 23rd minute. Senior goalkeeper Aileen Taylor would keep Immaculata off the board for the rest of the half by making two key saves.

The second half started with the Mighty Macs holding the ball in the Lions zone until sophomore Bailey Lehman added to the Lions lead to 4-1 in the 44th minute off a pass from sophomore Nicole Crumling that followed a penalty corner. Jennifer Crumling then completed a hat trick just four minutes later with her third goal of the game to make it 5-1 Lions. With Albright swarming in the Mighty Macs zone, Donmoyer capped the Lions scoring in the 53rd minute with her first goal of the season off a penalty stroke opportunity. Immaculata would end the scoring with a goal in the 57th minute that was started by a penalty corner opportunity.

The Lions held an 18-9 shot advantage for the game with 14 of the shots being on goal for the Lions, and eight for Immaculata. The Mighty Macs held a slight 11-10 advantage in penalty corners. Taylor earned the win after making five saves in 52:40 of action, and sophomore Brynne Schoppe finished the game by playing the last 17:20. Mighty Mac goalkeeper Randie Kuhar suffered the loss after making three saves and allowing three goals in the first 16:13, and backup goalie Jackie Victor finished the game by making five saves and allowing three goals in 53:47.

Albright will return to action on Saturday, September 22nd when they will begin MAC Commonwealth play on the road against Arcadia at 12 p.m.
