READING, Pa. – Senior
Anthony Parlato scored a pair of goals and the Albright Lions men's soccer team (2-5-1) snapped a six game winless streak with a 2-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy (0-8) on Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.
The multi-goal game marks the first of Parlato's career and he leads the team with four goals on the season.
This marks the first home win for the Lions since a 1-0 victory over Delaware Valley on Sept. 10, 2016.
Parlato got the scoring started in the 37
th minute as he gathered the ball on the far right wing and beat Griffins' keeper Kace Peters with a laser to give Albright a 1-0 lead. Head coach
Chris Tadley's squad held a 7-1 shot advantage in the first half.
The Center Moriches, N.Y. native struck again in the 61
st minute as he collected the ball in a similar spot and beat Peters with a shot to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage.
Albright outshot Gwynedd Mercy by a 14-2 margin and held a 7-1 edge in shots on target. Parlato had six shots to pace the Lions, while freshman
Billy Hanratty and senior
Jared Leckburg had three apiece.
Sophomore goalie
Brendan Hanratty (one save) and junior
Billy Mullen (season debut) combined on the shutout for the Lions. Peters recorded five save in net for the Griffins.
Albright hits the road to battle the DeSales Bulldogs on Tuesday, Sept 25 at 4 p.m.
