READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's soccer team (2-6-1, 0-1 MACC) fought hard for all 90 minutes, but fell short in a 2-0 loss to the #20 Lycoming Warriors (8-1-1, 1-0 MACC) in the MAC Commonwealth opener for both teams on Saturday night at Shirk Stadium.
Colin Wieand got the scoring started for the Warriors in the 17
th minute as he headed a shot past Lions goalie
Billy Mullen off a corner kick from Jake Webb that was served into the box. In the 41
st minute, Tolu Iluyomade was dragged down in the box and converted a penalty kick to give Lycoming a 2-0 edge.
Perhaps the best scoring chance for Albright came in the 75
th minute when senior
Anthony Parlato had a good look at the net, but his shot was blocked by a Lycoming defender.
The Lions put together a very solid effort defensively as they held the nationally-ranked Warriors to just seven shots on the night. Lycoming held a 7-2 shot advantage with Parlato and freshman
Alexander MacDonald recording the shots for the hosts.
Junior
Billy Mullen made his first start of the season in net and two saves for Albright.
The Lions are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when they head to Maryland to battle the Hood Blazers at 7 p.m.
