READING, Pa. – Junior Jill Lapidus scored just 1:23 into the game to set the tone and the Albright Lions women's soccer team (7-1-1, 1-0 MACC) picked up a 2-0 victory over the Lycoming Warriors (1-10, 0-2 MACC) in the team's MAC Commonwealth opener on Saturday night at Shirk Stadium.
This marks the fourth time in five years that Albright has won their conference opener.
Lapidus received a ball from freshman
Diza Hasanaj and Lycoming goalie Helen Ross came out on the rush, but the Scotch Plains, N.J. native was able to slide her shot far post to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. The goal was Lapidus' fourth of the season. Albright held a 10-1 shot advantage in the opening stanza.
Senior
Kennedy Lutz took a feed from classmate
Emily Mollica and sent a laser over Ross' head from about 15 yards out in the 75
th minute to stretch the lead to 2-0. The goal was Lutz's sixth of the season, a total that ranks third in the MAC Commonwealth.
Albright held a 14-2 advantage in shots including a 6-0 edge in shots on target and senior
Alexis Tunney recorded her third shutout of the season. Sophomore
Amanda Fulcher had four shots to pace the Lions, while Lutz recorded three.
The Lions look for their third straight win when they head to Maryland to battle the Hood Blazers on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
