READING, Pa. – Senior
Kennedy Lutz converted a penalty kick with 4:21 left and the Albright Lions women's soccer team (3-0-1) rallied for a 2-1 victory over the McDaniel Green Terror (2-1) on a rainy Saturday night at Shirk Stadium.
Lutz took the PK after sophomore forward
Lauren Haley had been dragged down inside the box by a McDaniel defender. The goal was Lutz's second of the season and both have come via penalty kicks.
This marks the first time that Albright is unbeaten in each of their first four games since starting the 2005 campaign at 6-0.
The Green Terror controlled play for much of the game and led 1-0 before Haley-who entered the game as a sub in the 65
th minute-got to a through ball over the top and chipped it over goalie McKenna Zerbe's head to tie things at one apiece in the 82
nd minute. The goal was Haley's fifth of the season.
Jackie Fahrenholz had given McDaniel a 1-0 lead in the 43
rd minute when she collected a loose ball in the box and beat Lions' keeper
Alexis Tunney.
McDaniel held a 15-5 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on target. Haley and Lutz recorded two shots apiece to pace Albright, while Hannah Schepers had six to lead the Green Terror. Albright recorded their first shot on goal in the 77
th minute when Zerbe stopped a shot from Haley.
The Lions are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they head to Delaware to battle Wesley College at 7 p.m.
