EWING, N.J. – Facing the No. 3 team in Division III field hockey, the Albright Lions field hockey team dropped a 5-0 contest on the road to TCNJ on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 1-3 overall on the season following back-to-back losses in overtime. Meanwhile, TCNJ improves to 3-0 overall.
TCNJ got off to a scorching start offensively as they scored on their first shot just 1:08 into the game before adding a second goal just 35 seconds later to make it 2-0. TCNJ then added a third goal following a penalty corner in the fourth minute of the game to make it 3-0. Despite the start, the Lions held TCNJ without a shot for the next eight minutes of the game while sophomore
Jennifer Crumling posted Albright's first shot of the game on goal in the 12
th minute. Albright's defense held strong by shutting down the TCNJ offense for the rest of the half to send the game at 3-0 into halftime.
In the second half it took TCNJ just 5:40 to score its fourth goal of the game following a penalty corner opportunity. Senior goalkeeper
Aileen Taylor put in a valiant effort against a charging TCNJ offense in the second half by making eight saves in the second half. The Lions created four penalty corner opportunities in just under a two-minute span, but were unable to get on the scoreboard with only one shot registered by junior
Mia Moshang.
TCNJ outshot the Lions 21-2 overall with 14 of the shots coming in the second half. TCNJ also held an 11-5 advantage in penalty corner opportunities as well. Taylor made 12 saves in the loss, while TCNJ goalkeeper Maddie Beaumont made just one save to earn the win.
The Lions will return home on Wednesday, September 12
th when they will host Wesley in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
