ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's basketball team (10-8, 5-4 MACC) held Lebanon Valley to 21.3% shooting and won their sixth straight with a 55-42 victory over the Dutchmen (9-9, 5-4 MACC) on Saturday afternoon at Sorrentino Gymnasium in Annville.
The Lions have held five of their six opponents under 50 points during the six-game winning streak.
Freshman
Dejah Terrell had 11 points on 7-of-10 free throwing shooting to pace the Lions, while classmate
Gabby Boggs added a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds and junior center
Zaria Mohamed contributed eight points on 4-of-6 shooting. The 14 rebounds for Boggs tie a season-high, having previously recorded 14 boards on Nov. 13 at Neumann and Nov. 17 vs. Keystone.
Anne Lehr paced the Dutchmen with 15 points and Megan Bisco added seven points off the bench.
Both teams struggled offensively out of the gate and a jumper from Lehr gave LVC a 4-3 edge with 2:04 left in the opening quarter, but Terrell responded with a jumper of her own on the other end and Albright would lead the rest of the way. After Dayton and Lehr exchanged buckets in the opening minute of the second quarter, the Lions embarked on an 8-0 run capped by an
Amina Rauf layup that gave the visitors a 17-6 lead with 4:08 to play in the half. LVC answered with a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead to five, but Mohamed's jumper in the final minute gave Albright a 23-14 lead heading into the locker room.
Albright scored the first six points of the second half and would lead by double digits the rest of the way. A jumper from freshman
Shaunna Bruker gave the Lions a 29-14 lead with 5:33 left in the third quarter and the two teams traded baskets over the next couple minutes before a Dayton three stretched the lead to as many as 18 at 37-19 with 1:44 left in the third. A pair of free throws from LVC's Emily Mealey drew the Dutchmen within 11 at 39-28 with 3:30 to play, but the comeback effort proved to be not enough and the Lions made 10-of-12 from the free throw line in the final 3:03 to preserve the victory.
Head coach
