READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions men's basketball team was unable to overcome 24 turnovers as they fell to the Arcadia Knights by a score of 90-75 at the Bollman Center on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth play.
With the loss, the Lions drop to 4-10 on the season and 3-3 in MAC Commonwealth play. Meanwhile, the first-place Knights improve to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play after winning their eighth-straight game.
Sophomore
Samuel Majekodunmi registered his third-straight 20-point game of the season with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field. In addition to his 11
th 20-point game of the season, Majekodunmi added seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Senior
Jared Rappoport added 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting and fell just short of a double-double with nine rebounds, while adding four blocks. Sophomore
Sidney Brown posted nine points on a trio of three-pointers, and freshman
Mark Brinkley Jr. added eight points off the bench behind a pair of three-pointers.
The first few baskets went back and forth as the Knights held a 5-4 lead at the 16:40-mark, but Arcadia then went on an 11-3 run to take a 16-7 lead with 13:00 left in the first half. Albright went on a short 7-3 run to cut the Arcadia advantage down to five at 19-14, but the Knights had an answer to every Lions basket to keep the lead at no lower than four points. Up 22-18, Arcadia would go on an 11-2 run to take their largest lead of the half at 33-20 with 4:59 left in the first half. Albright then outscored the Knights 11-5 in the final minutes of the first half to cut the deficit down to 38-31 at halftime.
Arcadia scored the first six points of the second half to take a 44-31 lead, matching its largest lead of the first half, and held a 46-33 lead at the 17:41-mark. Albright used a short 5-2 run to cut the lead down to 10 at 48-38 before the Knights countered with an 8-2 run to take a 56-40 lead at the 14:15-mark. Albright would go on an 8-2 run, while holding Arcadia without points for exactly three minutes to make it a 58-48 deficit at the 10:40-mark. Unfortunately for the Lions, Arcadia would not let their lead get under double-digits as they went back up 67-53 with 8:35 left in the second half. The Knights used an 11-2 run to take their largest lead of the game at 75-55 with 6:06 left in the second half to put any hopes at a Lions rally to rest. The Lions would not get under a 15-point deficit for the rest of the game as Arcadia closed out its wire-to-wire victory.
The Lions shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the field and went 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from beyond the arc. However, Albright went just 10-of-21 from the free throw line and allowed the Knights to score 39 points off its 24 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Knights shot 46.3 percent (31-of-67) from the field and 8-of-17 (47.1%) from beyond the arc. Arcadia shot a solid 76.9 percent (20-of-26) from the charity stripe and held a slight 33-31 rebounding advantage.
Da'kquan Davis led the Knights with a team-high 20 points behind going 6-of-10 from the field, while Phil Pierfy added 18 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Evan Sloane posted 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field in addition to pulling down eight rebounds, and Josh Scott tallied nine points and seven assists.
Albright will return to action on Wednesday, January 9
th when it travels to face Hood in conference play at 6 p.m.
