Bruker's Late Layup Pushes Women's Hoops Past Arcadia in Overtime

READING, Pa. – Freshman Shaunna Bruker's layup with 49 seconds left in the first overtime gave Albright the lead for good and the Lions (7-8, 2-4 MACC) topped the Arcadia Knights (6-8, 3-2 MACC) by a score of 60-56 in an overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon at the Bollman Center.

Bruker gathered an offensive rebound off a missed jumper from Dejah Terrell and convert the putback to give Albright the lead.

Arcadia had a couple of looks in the final minute, but the Knights went 0-4 from the field in the final 30 seconds and the Lions' Lauren Killion had a steal with six seconds left and Arcadia trailing by three. Killion was fouled immediately and hit her first free throw on the other end to ice the game.

Terrell had 11 points and eight rebounds to pace Albright, Killion came through with nine points and eight rebounds and the trio of Bruker, junior center Zaria Mohamed and freshman forward Gabby Boggs added eight points apiece. Boggs also contributed eight rebounds and five assists.

Makowski led the way offensively for Arcadia with a game-high 20 points and was joined in double figures by Sydney Cyr (14 points). The Lions limited the MAC Commonwealth's leading scorer Taylor Dunn (19.8 ppg) to nine points on 3-of-16 shooting.

The two teams traded buckets in the first quarter and a late jumper from Camille Menns gave Arcadia a 10-9 lead after one quarter. A jumper from Mohamed in the early stages of the second quarter gave Albright a 15-14 lead before Menns hit a layup on the other end to kickstart an 8-0 run for the Knights who eventually took a 24-20 lead into the locker room.

Arcadia scored the first six points out of the break and Makowski's layup at the 6:21 mark of the third quarter gave the visitors their largest lead of the night at 30-20. Killion scored the next five points for the Lions to ignite a 17-1 run over the remainder of the quarter and a Bruker free throw in the final seconds made it a 37-31 game in favor of the Lions. Albright held a 41-33 lead after a Boggs layup at the 8:24 mark of the fourth quarter before Makowski hit a three on the other end to start an 11-3 run and a pair of free throws from Dunn cut the lead to one with 4:49 left. Terrell hit a pair of free throws with six seconds left to give Albright a 53-50 lead and Cyr sank a three from a top of the key with one second left to force overtime. Makowski hit a free throw with 2:10 left in overtime to give Arcadia a 56-55 lead for the time being before Bruker's afore-mentioned layup.
