READING, Pa. – Led by juniors
Juli Hyatt and
Bryce Schaffer, the Lions men's and women's swimming teams competed against Widener at the Albright Natatorium on Saturday afternoon for the first home meet of the 2019-20 season. The men won versus Widener, 147-115 and the Albright women fell 76-184.
On the men's side, Albright won eight of the 14 events and Schaffer captured four wins – three individuals and one relay. The meet started off with sophomore Joe Guiliano, junior
Corey Hausler, Schaffer, and junior
Chris Laite finishing first into the wall in the men's 200 medley relay in 1:39.92. Schaffer won the 200 butterfly in 1:55.00, the 200 backstroke in 2:01.60, and the 100 butterfly in 53.26.
Other individual men's winners included junior Harry Hunsberger in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:16.43 and Guiliano in the 100 backstroke in 56.36. Senior
Maliq Williams finished right behind Schaffer in the 200 fly in a time of 2:00.29. The Albright men finished in the top three spots of the 500 freestyle, as senior
Teag Culver swam a 4:57.93, Hunsberger finished in 5:00.50, and senior
Will Griffith took third in 5:07.06.
The 400 freestyle relay of Williams, Culver, Hunsberger, and Griffith took first in a time of 3:17.22.
The Albright women's team won two events at the meet, both by Hyatt. She led the women's team with wins in the 1000 freestyle in an 11:51.03 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.08. The Pride took the remaining 10 events to score a total of 184 points.
The Albright swim teams will travel to Arcadia on Saturday, Nov. 2 for a 1 p.m. meet.
