READING, Pa. – Three second-half goals by the Hood Blazers downed the Albright men's soccer team on Wednesday evening in Shirk Stadium as the Lions celebrated their senior student-athletes.
The Lions will fall to 5-13 on the season and the Blazers pick up their first MAC Commonwealth win.
The first half saw three shots from the Lions and 13 from the Blazers. Senior goalkeeper
Billy Mullen posted key saves for Albright to keep the game scoreless after 45 minutes.
In the 66
th minute of the game, senior Clay Smith found the back of the net after a pass from first-year Cristian Urbina in front of the net for a 1-0 Hood lead. Smith scored his second of the game just seven minutes later, which was set up by senior Alain Shekanino on the left side of the field. Although Mullen continued to perform in the net for the Lions, the Blazers picked up their third goal at 77:37 as a Hood cross ricocheted off the Albright defense and into the net for a final score of 3-0. Billy Hanratty was unable to get past Hood sophomore goalkeeper Isaac Coeta, Jr.
Hood held a 25-8 advantage in shots in the game and a 13-3 edge in shots on target. The Blazers also earned nine corner kicks to Albright's two.
Billy Hanratty led the Lions with three shots and Smith paced the Blazers with eight shots.
Mullen tallied nine saves in the net for the Lions and first-year
Matt Czubachowski made his debut at goalkeeper for the Lions, making one save. Hood's Coeto, Jr. registered three saves to earn the win for the Blazers and a shutout.
The Albright men's soccer team will travel across town to Alvernia on Saturday, Nov. 2 for their final game of the 2019 season at 7 p.m.
