Men’s Soccer Comes Up Short Against Widener, 3-1

READING, Pa. – A second-half rally led by a goal from sophomore Billy Hanratty came up short as the Lions fell to Widener, 3-1, on Tuesday evening at Shirk Stadium.

Albright falls to 5-8 on the season and Widener picks up their first MAC Commonwealth win.

The Pride took the lead just 24 seconds after the whistle blew with junior Noah Saba coasting down the right side of the field and crossing to sophomore Nick Brison in front of the net.  Brison added a second goal, his sixth of the season, in the 21st minute from senior Andrew Thomas.  The score after the first 45 minutes of play was 2-0 in favor of Widener.

As the 60th minute of regulation approached, Albright was rewarded a penalty kick following a Widener foul in the box, which Billy Hanratty was able to convert.  Six minutes later, the same play occurred at the other end of the field, as Saba converted a penalty kick for a final score of 3-1 – a Widener victory.

The Pride held a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.  Albright's junior Alex Lahey led the way with two shots and Widener's Brison and junior Nicholas LeFevre each tallied four shots on the night.

Senior goalkeeper Billy Mullen made four saves for the Lions, facing 17 shots total.  Three Widener goalkeepers saw time in the game and senior John Warwick posted two saves and first-year Jereon Kortekaas picked up one.

The Albright men's soccer team returns to conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. as they will take on Lebanon Valley College at 7 p.m. in Shirk Stadium.
