Balanced Scoring Leads Men's Hoops Over Cabrini

PONOMA, N.J. – Behind a balanced scoring attack, the Albright men's basketball team picked up an 83-70 win over Cabrini in the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night.
 
With the win, the Lions improve to 2-0 on the season and will now face host Stockton in the championship game tomorrow at 3 p.m. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers fall to 2-2 overall and will take on St. Joe's Brooklyn in the consolation game.
 
Junior Samuel Majekodunmi led all five starters that scored in double-figures with a team-high 19 points, while adding seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Classmate Isaiah Harris followed with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and eight rebounds. Junior Sidney Brown posted 13 points behind going 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and classmate Troy Smoot added 12 points behind going 5-of-8 from the field. Senior DeLascio Dancy rounded out the attack with 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Junior Deion Booker scored eight points on 3-of-4 shooting, and grabbed four rebounds.
 
The teams went back and forth in the first three minutes of the game, with four lead changes that eventually left the Lions up 8-5 at the 16:34-mark. Albright continued their strong start with the field in addition to playing strong defense to take a 17-11 lead at the 13:17-mark of the first half. Cabrini used a 7-1 run over a span of 1:26 to pull within one point at 18-17 before a three-pointer from Booker put the Lions back up 21-17 at the 10:41-mark. The Cavaliers took the lead back for the first time since the 18-minute mark at 22-21, but the Lions responded with five-straight points from first-year Robert Mangum to take a 26-22 lead. The Cavaliers struck back with a 9-2 run to go up 31-28 at the 4:59-mark of the first half. Albright used five-straight points to go back up 33-31, and eventually took a 37-36 lead into halftime with a jumper from Harris giving them the advantage at the 1:28-mark.
 
Albright came out red hot in the second half as they went on a 10-1 run to take a 47-37 lead at the 15:45-mark. The Lions forced four Cavalier turnovers in the run, while Majekodunmi tallied eight of the 10 points. Cabrini hit back-to-back jumpers to pull within six, but Albright battled back with a 10-2 run to go up 57-43 at the 13:23-mark of the second half. The Lions continued to stay strong from the field as they extended their lead out to 17 points at 62-45 at the 12:03-mark. Cabrini used an 8-2 run to pull within 11 points at 63-54 at the 10:36-mark, but were unable to sustain momentum as they went 4:34 without a field goal. The drought bailed out the Lions, who went 3:21 without a point before going back up 16 points at 71-55. The Cavaliers were able to get the deficit under double digits at 71-62 with 4:11 left in regulation, but the Lions slammed the door with a 12-3 run to go up 83-65 at the 1:19-mark. Cabrini closed the game by scoring the final five points, but the Lions took the 13-point win.
 
The Lions shot 47.1 percent (33-of-70) from the field, and 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from beyond the arc. Albright went just 7-of-16 (43.8%) from the free throw line, but out-rebounded the Cavaliers 45-32 which led to a 16-5 advantage in second chance points. The Lions also scored 18 points off 16 Cavalier turnovers. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers went 28-of-60 (46.7%) from the field, but just 5-of-19 (26.3%) from three-point range. Cabrini went 9-of-16 (56.3%) from the charity stripe, and received 21 points from the bench. Keith Blassingale led all scorers with 20 points after going 9-of-15 from the field, and Voshon Mack added 19 points, six rebounds, and four blocks.
 
Albright will return to action tomorrow, November 16th as they will face Stockton in the tournament championship game at 3 p.m.
