UNION, N.J. – Albright women's basketball outscored Wheaton (Mass.) 42-22 in the second half to pull away as the Lions won 83-65 in the opening round of the Kean Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening.
Albright started the fourth quarter on a 14-2 run that secured the Lions' third straight win, as head coach
Janice Luck's squad outscored Wheaton 18-7 in the closing 10 minutes.
Dejah Terrell paced a group of sophomores that led the Lions' scoring after she recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Amina Rauf scored a career-high 17 points on 7-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc while
Gabby Boggs tallied 13 points paired with eight rebounds.
Abby Gaffney added 12 points and seven assists while
Brady Wassel recorded 10 points and seven rebounds.
Sophomore Mikayla Pucci paced Wheaton after scoring 17 points and first-year Alexis Romer came through with 11 points.
An even game at the half, Albright led the first quarter 27-22 and fell 21-14 in the second quarter to trail Wheaton 43-41 at the half. The third quarter scoring was kick-started with a three-pointer from Rauf to take over the lead going into the last 10 minutes, 65-58.
Albright went 27-of-53 (50.9%) from the floor, 10-of-22 (45.5%) from beyond the arc, and 19-of-29 (65.5%) from the free throw line. Wheaton shot 38.3% (23-of-60) from the floor, 33.3% (8-of-24) from beyond the arc, and 68.6% (11-of-16) from the line. The Lions held a 37-30 advantage on the boards as Terrell led with 12 rebounds while Pucci and first-year Sadie Shore each grabbed six for Wheaton.
The Lions will advance to the championship game of the tournament and face Kean on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.
