ASTON, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team (1-2) was swept in a doubleheader by the Dickinson Red Devils (2-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Maple Zone Sports Complex in Aston.
Dickinson won game one by a score of 12-2 and took game two by a 15-4 count.
Game One
Dickinson jumped out to an early 6-0 lead after two innings with two-run shots from Max Matilsky and Ben Carter.
The Lions responded with single runs in each of the next two frames as senior
Austin Roth knocked in a run with a sac fly and junior
Logan Adams plated a run via an RBI single in the third, but Albright was unable to get any closer than 7-2. Dickinson quickly answered with a trio of RBI singles in the top of the fourth to make it a 10-2 game. All three Red Devils' runs in the fourth came with two outs after an error started the inning.
Albright starter
Shaun O'Reilly was dealt the loss after allowing seven runs on nine hits while walking one and fanning three in two innings of work. Ethan Collins earned the win for the Red Devils as he surrendered two runs on eight hits to go along with four strikeouts in five innings.
The Lions tallied 11 hits in the game led by three from junior
Logan Pennypacker (3-4, R). Senior
Jeff Yordy (2-4), senior
Joe Suppa (2-3, BB, R) and freshman
Will Algard (2-3) also added multi-hit games for head coach Jeff Feiler's squad. Pennypacker's three hits matched a career-high, having previously accomplished the feat on April 5, 2017 versus Gwynedd Mercy.
LHP
Kyle Smith fanned five batters and allowed just one hit over two scoreless innings of relief for the Lions.
Game Two
For the second straight game, the Red Devils jumped out to an early lead with a run in the first as Carter reached on an error charged to Lions' third baseman
Jeremy Brubaker and scored later in the frame on Alex Cohen's RBI single. Dickinson tacked on a pair in the home half of the second to grab a 3-0 lead on three hits and an error in the inning.
In the top of the fourth, Pennypacker led off with an infield single, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Adams' sac fly to bring the Lions within a pair at 3-1.
Dickinson broke the game open with a 12-run fifth inning on the strength of 10 hits and was helped by three Albright errors in the frame. Brian Reilly had a pair of hits in the inning for the Red Devils including a three-run homer.
Lions starter
Nick Dinnocenti was charged with the loss after giving up six runs (three earned) on 12 hits to go along with one strikeout in 4 1/3 IP. RHP Tommy Koite fanned seven and allowed two runs in six innings of work to get the win for the Red Devils.
Freshman
Alex Stump led off the top of the sixth for the Lions with a double into the gap and scored later in the inning on a two-out RBI double from junior
Brandon Daubert. Freshman
Chris Thomas delivered a pinch-hit RBI triple in the seventh to knock in the fourth run of the day for Albright.
Pennypacker (2-4, SB, R) and Stump (2-2, 2B, R) both had multi-hit games for the Lions.
Albright is back in action on Saturday, March 2 when they head to Marywood for a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 12 p.m.
