Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away From E-Town, 17-10

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions women's lacrosse team used a strong start to the second half to pull away from Elizabethtown to win by a score of 17-10  in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Shirk Stadium.
 
With the win, the Lions improve to 4-2 overall as they tallied their third-straight win. Meanwhile the Blue Jays, of the Landmark Conference fall to 1-5 overall.
 
Freshman Lauren China got the scoring started at the 26:06-mark of the first half with her first goal of the game to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. Junior Kelly Baumann followed that with a free position shot goal just 22 seconds later to make it a 2-0 game. Baumann then struck again at the 23:45-mark of the first half to make it 3-0 following a quick turnover by the Blue Jays. Elizabethtown got on the board at the 20:11-mark before the Lions responded with back-to-back goals to make it 5-1 at the 15:29-mark. Both goals came from free position shots with the first being from Baumann, and the second being from senior Sophie Bass. However, the Lions then began into scoring drought that allowed the Blue Jays to close back in and make it a 5-3 game at the 2:49-mark of the first half. Albright would end the first half strong as Baumann tallied her fourth goal of period on a free position shot to make it 6-3.
 
The Lions then came out flying in the second half as they scored six goals in the first 5:53 to take a commanding 12-3 lead. Baumann got things started with her fifth goal of the game on a free position shot just 35 seconds into the half, and would be followed a minute later with two goals in the span of 12 seconds from Bass and freshman Ashleigh Tortorice. China tallied her second of the game for the third goal in the run before Bass scored her third goal of the game at the 24:53-mark. China concluded the run with her third goal of the game after Bass found her in front of the net. After a Blue Jays goal made it 12-4, freshman Maddie Taylor got in on the Lions scoring to make it 13-4 at the 16:15-mark. Elizabethtown responded again, but Albright had an answer with China tallying her fourth goal of the game at the 13:36-mark to make it 14-5. As the Lions began emptying its bench, the Blue Jays made it a seven goal game at 14-7 with 9:59 left in the second half. Bass would then end the quick burst with a free position shot goal at the 7:21-mark. Three consecutive goals brought the Blue Jays within five goals at 15-10 with 2:09 left, but the Lions ended strong with back-to-back goals from China and Taylor.
 
Albright held a slight 37-33 shot advantage for the game and a 26-21 advantage in shots on goal. The Lions also held a 25-19 advantage in ground balls, while the teams split the draw controls at 14 apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Terae Mason earned the win after making 10 saves in 45:52 minutes of action, while freshman Nicole Elliott finished the final 14:08 with one save. Blue Jays goalkeeper Abby Kopytko suffered the loss after making nine saves in the full 60 minutes of action. Bass paced the Lions offense with a career-high 10 points behind four goals and tying a single-game record with six assists. Baumann and China each led the Lions with five goals apiece, while Baumann set her own single-game program record with seven caused turnovers. Senior Alexis Filmer also added two assists in the win.
 
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, March 16th as they will host Farmingdale State in non-conference action at 1 p.m.
