Softball Records Split on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Albright Lions softball team (6-8) split a pair of games on its final day at The Spring Games in Clermont on Saturday.

Albright recorded a 13-1 victory over Maine-Farmington (2-7) in five innings after dropping a 14-2 decision to Hamilton (10-2) in five innings to start the day.

Game One
Hamilton grabbed an early 5-0 lead with a five spot in the first as a pair of walks and a fielder's choice loaded the bases before Emily Fraser delivered a three-run double to open the scoring. Albright was able to get a pair back in the home half of the second when three walks loaded the bases and senior Kelly Cembrale delivered a two-run single to cut the lead to 5-2. The Continentals had an answer though with five more runs in the top of the third including a run-scoring single from Shelby McVey that made it a 10-2 game.

Freshman Allison Melahn (2-3) was dealt the loss for the Lions after allowing six runs on four hits to go along with five walks in two plus innings of work. Molly Leitner (2-0) earned the win for Hamilton after giving up two runs on six hits while walking three in 5.0 IP.

Senior Jordan Chell (2-3) had a multi-hit game for the Lions.

Game Two
Albright took control early against Maine-Farmington with five runs in the first as they loaded the bases with nobody out before junior Camille Sears drew a walk, a wild pitch brought home a run, senior Corinne Garuffe reached on a fielder's choice to bring in a run and freshman Kasey Souder plated a pair with a two-run single.

The Lions got three more in the top of the second to extend the lead to 8-0 as Chell knocked in a pair with a two-run double in the inning. Souder struck again in a five-run fourth with a two-run single and junior Jessica Rodriguez came through with a two-run double in the frame as Albright made it a 13-0 game for the time being.

Sears (2-4) earned the win for the Lions after surrendering one run on five hits to go along with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work. Kailyn Hill (0-5) was charged with 13 runs (five earned) on nine hits while walking six over five innings.

Souder (2-3, 4 RBI, R) and junior Brooke Yerger (2-3, 4 SB, 3 R) both delivered multi-hit games for Albright, while Chell and Rodriguez each drove in and scored a pair of runs.
