Bass Reaches 200-point Milestone in Lions 19-7 win over Alvernia

READING, Pa. – Senior Sophie Bass became the third player in Albright Lions women's lacrosse history to reach 200 career points as the Lions dominated Alvernia 19-7 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Shirk Stadium in MAC Commonwealth play.
 
With the win, the Lions have now won seven in a row to improve to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in MAC Commownealth play. Meanwhile, the Golden Wolves fall to 2-7 overall behind a 0-2 mark in conference play.
 
The Lions hit the ground running early against Alvernia as they scored their first goal of the game 52 seconds in when freshman Maddie Taylor scored after her classmate Taylor Filmer found her in front of the net. Albright tallied a second goal on their next possession after freshman Ashleigh Tortorice scored her first of the game off a pass from junior Kelly Baumann. Freshman Lauren China found the scoresheet just a 1:18 later to make it 3-0 before Taylor Filmer continued to goal run at 4-0 just 45 seconds later. Baumann then scored 20 seconds later to make it 5-0 after causing her single-season program record 33rd caused turnover. Albright would follow by scoring four goals in a span of 1:49 to take a commanding 9-0 lead at the 22:17-mark. Tortorice started the scoring run with her second of the game, and was followed by China 30 seconds later. Taylor and Bass concluded the burst with free position shot goals 56 seconds second of each other. Junior Sophia Mantzavinos then registered the first goal of her collegiate career on a free position shot at the 20:58-mark to make it 10-0, and Bass would follow with her second of the game at the 19:48-mark. Bass would score again to make it 12-0 at the 17:23 mark before Alvernia broke up the run with back-to-back goals. Senior Alexis Filmer scored her first goal of the game to make it 13-2 at the 11:09-mark, and Taylor ended the huge first half for the Lions with her third goal of the game at the 2:41-mark.
 
Following an Alvernia goal to open the second half, the Lions responded with back-to-back goals from Taylor and China to make it 16-3 Lions at the 25:34-mark. Bass hit the 200-point plateau on her assist to Taylor. Baumann would then strike with two-straight goals to make it 18-3 at the 19:18-mark of the second half. With mostly back-ups in the game, Alvernia tallied three-straight goals to make it 18-6 at the 11:13-mark of the second half. Baumann would then end the short Golden Wolve run with the Lions final goal of the game to make it 19-6 at the 8:52-mark.
 
The Lions held a sizable 31-10 shot advantage for the game after tallying 24 in the first half. Albright also held a 25-9 advantage in shots on goal, and a 15-7 edge in ground balls. The Lions also held a 19-8 advantage in draw control wins as well. Bass led the way with seven points behind three goals and four assists, while Baumann followed with five points behind four goals and one assist. Taylor recorded a career-high four goals, China posted three goals, and Taylor Filmer finished with three points behind one goal along with two assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Terae Mason and freshman goalkeeper Nicole Elliott split time in the net for the Lions. Mason earned the win after making two saves and allowing just two goals in 30 minutes, while Elliott allowed five goals in the final 30 minutes. Golden Wolves goalkeeper Kathrine Giannaras suffered the loss after starting and making three saves in the first 16:23 before Samantha Rothman relieved her for the final 43:37.
 
Albright will return to action on Wednesday, April 3rd when they will travel to face Lycoming at 4:30 p.m. in MAC Commonwealth Play.
