READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions softball team (11-15, 5-3 MACC) rallied for a 5-4 victory in game one and split a doubleheader with the Arcadia Knights (17-7, 6-2 MACC) in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday afternoon at Albright Softball Field.
Arcadia won game two by a score of 5-3.
Game One
Junior
Jessica Rodriguez's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh lifted Albright to the 5-4 win in game one. Freshman
Nicole Salerno started the inning with a single, advanced to second on a sac bunt, took third on
Brooke Yerger's single and scored on Rodriguez's line drive into centerfield.
Brenna Dolan (1-1) was dealt the loss for the Knights after giving the one run on four hits to go along with a walk and a strikeout in an inning of work. Freshman
Allison Melahn (6-4) got the win for the Lions after allowing four runs on 11 hits while walking two and fanning five in a complete game effort.
The Lions trailed 4-0 heading into the sixth, but rallied for four runs in the inning as
Kelly Cembrale led off with a double and scored on Rodriguez's RBI single before
Jordan Chell hit a two-run shot and junior
Camille Sears made it back-to-back home runs with a game-tying blast to dead center. The home runs were Sears' third of the season and Chell's first.
Arcadia opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first as Alex DeStefano plated a run via an RBI single and later scored on Hunter Schantz's RBI double. DeStefano added a two-run single in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-0 before the Lions' afore-mentioned rally.
Knights starter Kylee Schwind (n/d) surrendered four runs on five hits while walking one and fanning four in 5 1/3 IP.
Rodriguez (2-4, 2 RBI, R) and senior
Stephanie Pomante (2-3) both recorded multi-hit games for Albright. Pomante's single in the fifth inning was the 100
th hit of her career.
Game Two
Both teams plated a run in the first as Schantz knocked in a run with an RBI single for Arcadia and Sears answered for the Lions with an RBI single to score Yerger in the home half of the inning.
The Knights took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the top of the third as consecutive singles started the inning and Jackie Bilotti plated a run via an RBI single before scoring on a wild pitch later in the inning to make it a 3-1 game. Albright wouldn't go quietly however as Chell drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a single and scored on younger sister
Kaitlyn Chell's two-out RBI single to make it a one-run game.
Sears (3-8) gave up five runs on 10 hits to go along with two walks in 3 2/3 IP and was dealt the loss for the Lions. Mary Pat Murray (8-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on nine hits and fanned four in seven innings of work to register the win for Arcadia.
Bilotti struck again with a two-run single in the top of the fourth and Yerger answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 5-3, but the Lions were unable to get any closer.
Cembrale (2-3, R), Sears (2-4, RBI) and Yerger (2-4, RBI, R) all had multi-hit games for Albright, while Melahn tossed 3 1/3 shutout innings of relief.
The Lions hit the road to battle Stevenson in a key MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
