READING, Pa. – Senior
Jeff Yordy finished a home run shy of the cycle and junior
Nick Dinnocenti tossed five innings of one-run ball to lift the Albright Lions baseball team (9-18, 5-10 MACC) to a 9-5 victory over the Alvernia Golden Wolves (20-10-1, 11-4 MACC) in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Angelica Park.
The Lions opened the scoring in the top of the second as
Logan Adams led off with a single, advanced to second on
Jack Shevlin's single, took third on a balk and scored on
Brandon Daubert's RBI groundout. Yordy extended the lead to 2-0 in the third as he tripled down the right field line to score
Logan Pennypacker.
Dinnocenti (1-4) surrendered one run on five hits to go along with three walks and two strikeouts over a season-high five plus innings of work to earn the win for Albright. Junior RHP
Shaun O'Reilly (3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K) and senior LHP
Daron Pijanowski (1.0 IP, BB) combined to close things out in relief.
Brian Kane (2-3) gave up two runs on four hits to go along with a walk and a strikeout in 2 1/3 IP and was dealt the loss for Alvernia.
A three-run fifth broke the game open for the Lions as a walk and a single started the inning before a throwing error charged to Golden Wolves lefty Jake Reese allowed a run to score and Yordy followed with a two-run double to stretch the lead to 5-0. Yordy struck again with an RBI single in the eighth and Adams followed with a two-run triple, while Daubert added a sac fly in the frame to give the Lions a 9-1 advantage. Alvernia would rally with a run in the home half of the eighth and three in the ninth, but Pijanowski got Grant Hackett to fly out to left and end the game.
Adams (3-5, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 R), Pennypacker (2-4, 2B, SB, 3 R) and Yordy (3-5, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI, R) registered multi-hit games for the Lions.
