READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions softball team (17-15, 11-3 MACC) swept the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen (16-18, 6-8 MACC) to clinch a postseason berth on Thursday afternoon at Albright Softball Field.
Albright won game one by a score of 5-2 and rallied for three runs in the seventh as junior
Abigail Lord hit a two-run walk-off single to lift the Lions to a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.
This marks the first postseason berth for the program since 2007.
The Lions sit in second place in the MAC Commonwealth standings with two conference games remaining and the MAC Commonwealth Tournament will be held from May 3-5 at Messiah.
Game One
Albright took the lead for good with a three-run third inning en route to the 5-2 win.
Junior
Brooke Yerger doubled and
Jessica Rodriguez followed with a single to put two runners on before a throwing error charged to LVC 1B Rylee Shockley allowed Yerger to score the tying run, while junior
Camille Sears followed with an RBI single to give the Lions the lead. Sophomore
Nora Harrison plated the third and final run of the inning via an RBI groundout to make it a 4-2 game.
Freshman
Allison Melahn (11-4) gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits to go along with two walks and a strikeout in seven innings of work to earn the win for Albright. Lexi Windsor (10-7) allowed five runs (two earned) on five hits while walking three and fanning five in 6.0 IP and was dealt the loss for the Dutchmen.
Lebanon Valley opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second on Kristi Langhans' RBI single, but the Lions answered with a run in the home half of the frame as Sears reached on an error charged to Annie McClain at short and scored from first when Harrison reached on a throwing error charged to Dutchmen 3B Jen Kaufman.
Harrison added an RBI double in the home half of the fifth to stretch the lead to 5-2. Lebanon Valley threatened in the top of the seventh and brought the tying run to the plate, but Melahn got Savannah Toth to fly to center and Shockley popped out to third to end the game.
Yerger (2-4, 2B, R) had a multi-hit game for the Lions, while Harrison knocked in a pair of runs and senior
Jordan Chell scored a pair of runs.
Game Two
Lord pinch-hit for Harrison and came through with a two-out, two-run walk-off single into shallow left field to lift the Lions to the 3-2 win. Albright loaded the bases with nobody out in the frame, but Windsor got a fielder's choice and a popout for the first two outs before senior
Stephanie Pomante beat out an infield single to knock in a run and cut the lead to 2-1.
Windsor (10-8) was dealt the loss for Lebanon Valley after allowing three unearned runs on nine hits to go along with two walks and three strikeouts in 6 2/3 IP. Melahn (12-4) gave up two runs on nine hits while walking one and fanning one in a complete-game effort to earn the second win of the day for the Lions.
Lebanon Valley got on the board with Langhans' RBI single in the second and she struck again with an RBI single in the fourth to make it a 2-0 game for the time being.
Chell (2-4, R) and Pomante (3-3, BB, RBI) both registered multi-hit games for Albright.

The Lions hit the road to battle York (Pa.) in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, April 22 with first pitch set for 3 p.m.
