READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team (5-14) dropped a back-and-forth affair by a score of 11-10 to the Moravian Greyhounds (13-9) in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Kelchner Field.
Albright held a 9-8 lead heading into the seventh before Moravian took the lead for good with three runs in the frame including a go-ahead sac fly from Ian Csencsits and Evan Kulig followed with an RBI single to stretch the lead to 11-9. The Lions got one back in the home half of the frame as freshman
Lew Meringo reached with a one-out single, stole second and scored on
Austin Roth's RBI single to cut the lead to 11-10, but the hosts were unable to get any closer.
Senior
Daron Pijanowski (1-1) was dealt the loss for Albright after allowing three runs on four hits to go along with two walks in 2/3 of an inning. Kyle Serman (1-1) allowed a run on two hits in 2/3 of an inning and got the win for the Greyhounds, while Connor Morro gave up a hit in 2 2/3 IP and earned his second save.
Joe Suppa led off the ninth with a leadoff single for the Lions, but Morro got a popup and got pinch-hitter
Jakob Fry to ground into a 6-3 double play and end the game.
The Lions opened the scoring in the home half of the first as
Logan Pennypacker drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on a throwing error charged to Moravian SS Michael Miceli. Austin Markowski tied the game at one apiece for the Greyhounds with a solo shot in the top of the third. Albright struck for three runs in the home half of the inning to take a 4-1 lead as a pair of walks put two men on to set the stage for a two-run double from
Logan Adams and a
Josh Jacavage RBI single. Junior
Jimmie Gentry tacked on an RBI double in the fourth to make it a 5-1 game, but Moravian answered with three in the top of the fifth as AJ Brosious delivered the big blow in the inning via a two-run single.
The Greyhounds followed with four more runs in the top of the sixth to take an 8-5 lead as Markowski delivered an RBI double and pinch-hitter Thomas Philipps came through with a two-run double of his own. Meringo hit his first career home run to start a four-run rally for the Lions in the home half and a pair of singles put two runners on before senior
Jeff Yordy tied the game with a two-run double and scored on Adams' RBI single to give the hosts the lead for the time being.
Freshman RHP
Willie Kimmel III got the start for Albright and allowed a run on two hits while walking one and fanning two over three innings of work in a no-decision.
Adams (2-4, 2B, 3 RBI, R), Gentry (2-4, 2B, RBI, BB, R), Meringo (2-4, HR, RBI, SB, 2 R) and Roth (2-3, RBI, BB, 2 R) recorded multi-hit games for the Lions, while Pennypacker added a hit, a pair of walks and three runs scored. Yordy (1.0 IP, K) and sophomore
Nick Cummings (1.2 IP, 2 H, K) both had scoreless outings in relief.
