Baseball Falls to Elizabethtown in Non-Conference Action

READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team (5-15) fell to the Elizabethtown Blue Jays (7-15) by a score of 20-2 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Kelchner Field.

Elizabethtown jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top half of the first as an error, a walk and a single loaded the bases with nobody out before Mike Christy knocked in a pair with a two-run double. The Blue Jays once again loaded the bases with three consecutive singles to start the second inning and Christy cleared the bases with a three-run triple as part of a four-run frame to make it 8-0 after two innings. Albright threatened with runners at the corners and nobody out in the home half of the second, but Blue Jays starter Justin Cherry was able to get a pair of strikeouts and a popup to end the inning. The Lions got on the board with a run in the third as senior Joe Suppa reached with a two-out single and scored from first on Jeff Yordy's RBI double to cut the lead to 8-1. In the bottom of the fourth, a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Lions and freshman Will Algard delivered a run via a sac fly.

Junior RHP Matt Fisher (0-3) was dealt the loss for Albright after allowing eight runs (six earned) on six hits to go along with a walk and a strikeout in three innings of work. Cherry gave up two runs on six hits over four innings in a no-decision for Elizabethtown and RHP Matt Barton (1-2) earned the win as he fanned three while allowing three hits in three scoreless frames of relief.

The Blue Jays added runs in each of the final four frames including six runs in the sixth as Derek Manning delivered the big blow in that inning with a two-run double.

Algard (2-3, RBI), Suppa (2-4, BB, R) and Shevlin (2-4) registered multi-hit games for the Lions and junior RHP Nick Dinnocenti (1.0 IP, K) tossed a perfect inning of relief.

Albright returns to MAC Commonwealth play with the opener of a three-game set at Widener on Friday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
