READING, Pa. – The Albright Lions baseball team (10-25, 5-15 MACC) dropped a pair of games to the Messiah Falcons (15-22, 7-13 MACC) as the team wrapped up the home portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon at Kelchner Field.
Albright honored the team's seven seniors in a postgame ceremony:
Jesse Fikslin,
Kyle Gantert,
Daron Pijanowski,
Austin Roth,
Phil Staehle,
Joe Suppa and
Jeff Yordy.
Messiah won game one by a score of 13-3 and captured a 5-1 decision in game two.
Game One
The Lions struck first in game one as junior
Logan Pennypacker drew a leadoff walk, stole second and scored on Yordy's RBI single to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead. Messiah quickly answered with five runs in each of the next two frames to open up a 10-1 lead including three RBI from Jimmy Kustra and an RBI double and RBI single from Trent Culver.
Junior
Will Tokarski (2-6) was dealt the loss for the Lions after allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits to go along with a walk and two strikeouts in two plus innings of work. Glenn Petraitis (2-1) gave up three runs on nine hits while walking four and fanning one in 4 1/3 IP and got the win for the Falcons.
Albright got a pair of runs back in the home half of the fourth as a pair of singles and walk loaded the bases with nobody out before Pennypacker plated a run via an RBI groundout and
Jimmie Gentry knocked in a run with an RBI single.
Gentry (2-4, RBI), Suppa (2-3, R) and Yordy (2-4, RBI) recorded multi-hit games for the Lions, while junior
Matt Fisher (1.2 IP, K) and Staehle (0.1 IP, H) had scoreless outings in relief.
Game Two
Messiah took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first when Culver led off with a single, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Jarod Bingaman's sac fly. The Falcons added a pair of runs in the third including an RBI single from Josh Hayner to make it a 3-0 game.
Freshman
Willie Kimmel III (2-6) was dealt the loss for Albright after giving up five runs (four earned) on 10 hits to go along with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings of work. Ethan Hess (6-3) allowed an unearned run on six hits and fanned three over 6 2/3 IP to earn the win for Messiah.
The Falcons added solo runs in the fifth and sixth before the Lions got on the board in the home half of the sixth as Yordy beat out an infield single, advanced to third on
Logan Adams' single and scored on a throwing error charged to Messiah catcher Sam Stewart that cut the lead to 5-1.
Pennypacker (3-3, 2B, BB) led the way for the Lions offensively, while Yordy added a hit and a run scored. Pijanowski (1.0 IP, 2 K) retired the side in order in a perfect inning of relief for head coach Jeff Feiler's squad.
The two teams will wrap up the regular season on Sunday afternoon at Messiah at 2 p.m.
